Language(s) of instruction
The language of instruction at Defender Ukrainian Training Centre is Ukrainian, the state language.
Education is organised in accordance with Ukrainian legislation on education and the use of Ukrainian as the state language, including the Law of Ukraine “On Education”, vocational education legislation and the Law “On Ensuring the Functioning of Ukrainian as the State Language”.
Use of the state language
Ukrainian is used at the Training Centre for:
- theoretical and practical classes;
- teaching subjects, modules and individual topics;
- briefings, consultations and practical skills exercises;
- continuous, intermediate and final assessment;
- knowledge checks and practical training assessment;
- preparing teaching and organisational documents;
- maintaining registers and other teaching records;
- preparing teaching, methodological and information materials;
- communicating with learners about study arrangements.
Curricula, methodological materials, instructions, assignments and other teaching resources are prepared and used primarily in Ukrainian.
Use of foreign languages
International cooperation and the specific nature of some training fields may involve the additional use of English and other foreign languages where and as permitted by Ukrainian law.
Foreign languages may be appropriate for:
- international training programmes and projects;
- training involving foreign experts and instructors;
- international exchanges of experience;
- working with foreign teaching and methodological materials;
- studying international standards, guidance and professional terminology;
- specific activities for foreign participants;
- joint programmes with Ukrainian and international partners.
Where needed, teaching materials may be translated or language support provided in Ukrainian and foreign languages.
Professional terminology
Training may use internationally recognised terms, abbreviations and professional designations, particularly in civil protection, fire and technological safety, first aid, occupational safety, mine action and other training fields.
Their use helps learners work with modern professional materials and international terminology and does not change Ukrainian’s status as the primary language of instruction.
Core principle
Ukrainian is the primary and mandatory language of instruction at Defender Ukrainian Training Centre.
Foreign languages have a supporting role and may be used to develop international cooperation, study professional information and improve training quality in compliance with Ukrainian law.
