UAV, ground robotics and electronic warfare operator training

Technology that reduces risk to people

Modern unmanned and robotic technology for civil protection, fire safety, search and rescue and emergency response.

Defender Ukrainian Training Centre · Kyiv Volunteer Fire Service

We provide theoretical and practical training for unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) and robotic ground system operators, as well as training in electronic warfare and protection.

Programmes build skills for safe equipment use when monitoring areas, fires and emergencies, searching for people, surveying hazardous locations and assessing damage.

UAVs — unmanned aerial vehicles

Training covers unmanned aircraft system design and operation, safety requirements, equipment preparation and the fundamentals of control.

Participants learn flight task planning, basic and specialised control modes, navigation, photography and video, aerial monitoring, information transfer and responses to abnormal situations.

Civil protection applications include fire reconnaissance, assessing an emergency’s scale, searching for people, inspecting hard-to-reach areas, monitoring facilities and preliminary damage assessment.

Robotic ground systems

We prepare operators to use ground robotic systems remotely where a person’s direct presence would increase risk.

The programme may cover platform design, controls, observation and communication systems, preparation, remote operation, negotiating obstacles, condition monitoring and safe shutdown.

For civil protection, these systems support remote inspection, reconnaissance and equipment delivery near fires, accidents and damaged structures while reducing risk to rescuers.

Electronic warfare and protection

This area develops an understanding of radio communications, unmanned system control links, the radio-frequency environment’s effect on UAVs and ground systems, and the principles of electronic protection.

Training may include recognising common electronic threats, an overview of authorised UAV detection and countermeasure equipment, protecting communication and control links, electromagnetic compatibility and safety requirements.

Practical work focuses on safe and lawful equipment use, situation assessment and decision-making without endangering people, critical infrastructure or other electronic systems.

Practical training

Training may use training UAVs, ground robotic platforms, communication equipment, simulators and specialised equipment.

We practise operator and crew roles, coordination with the supervisor, risk assessment, equipment preparation, training tasks and responses to abnormal situations.

Who it is for and how to choose a programme

Programmes can be adapted for firefighters and rescuers, volunteer units, civil protection specialists, emergency services, businesses, communities, critical infrastructure operators and civic and humanitarian organisations.

Duration, content and difficulty depend on participants’ prior experience, equipment and intended tasks. Send an enquiry to agree the programme, practical component and available dates.
