“SAFE LAND” Humanitarian Demining Group
The “Safe Land” Humanitarian Demining Group of the NGO “Kyiv Volunteer Fire Service” is a mine action operator established to clear Ukrainian land of mines, munitions and other explosive ordnance left by hostilities.
Our goal is to return safe land to people: community areas, farmland, infrastructure sites and other land contaminated by mines and explosive remnants of war.
Working to national and international standards
The group's activities follow Ukrainian legislation, national mine action standards and international approaches IMAS / ISO, with established quality management and safety procedures.
People's safety, professional staff and the quality of our work are our core principles.
Our main areas of work
Non-technical survey
Collecting and analysing information about possible mine and explosive ordnance contamination to identify suspected hazardous areas.
Technical survey
Surveying designated areas using specialised methods and equipment to confirm hazards and define the boundaries of contaminated areas.
Manual demining
Manual demining by trained specialists in accordance with established procedures and safety requirements.
Battle area clearance
Clearing areas contaminated by explosive remnants of war resulting from hostilities.
Land clearance
Detecting and safely removing explosive ordnance, followed by returning cleared land to safe use.
Explosive ordnance risk education
Providing communities with information on mine risks, potentially hazardous areas and safe behaviour.
A professional team
The work is carried out by trained and qualified specialistswho have completed the relevant vocational training and strictly follow established safety procedures.
One of the activities of the Ukrainian Training Centre “Defender” is vocational training for the profession of “Sapper (Demining)”.
Continuous learning, practical training and professional development are integral to the team's work.
